THE STRUGGLE TO HEAL

The survivors of terror attacks face lifelong issues that the majority of us will never be able to fully understand. We can, however, offer our support and be aware of the challenges they face.

Not only are many of them coping with the loss of someone who was with them during a terrorist attack, but they are consumed with memories of the event.
Scores of survivors are diagnosed with debilitating conditions including:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Acute Stress Disorder (ASD)

  • Addiction due to substance abuse

  • Depression

  • Grief

  • Survivor’s guilt

In addition, many survivors suffered physical wounds that changed their bodies permanently and these injuries often produce a domino effect. They have to learn how to cope with new physical limitations that changed their lifestyle and quality of life. They are also experiencing the stress that comes with the burden of numerous and seemingly insurmountable medical bills.

Terrorism destroys the sense of safety and security that people usually feel on a day-to-day basis. It is a daunting task for survivors to return to their former lives. The good news is that symptoms of anxiety, fear and grief will dissipate overtime. Health professionals can direct survivors to therapies and treatments that will work best for them.

From a legal standpoint, 1-800-LAW-FIRM can help American survivors seek justice for the permanent consequences of these attacks. The act of seeking justice can bring comfort to those suffering and can aid in the prevention of the destruction of more innocent lives.

If you are a survivor of a terrorist attack, we invite you to share your story.
